You’re never to old to learn something new.
We are entering a new season and a new year. What is it that you’ve been afraid to do or have never done before but desire to do? For me, I never learned how to swim. I took a swimming class when I turned 30 a few years ago and dropped out. My goal is to re-enroll and conquer my fears and the thoughts that “I’m too old for this.” Around the same time, I wanted to learn to play golf. During that time, I bought some golf clubs and took to the driving range with a friend who knows the game. The truth of the matter is that I’m not that great at it, but I tried!
I find that for most of us, we ward off trying new things or even reintroducing something old that we once thought we didn’t like or failed at. The best example that I can give is with food. When I was a child, you couldn’t get me to eat beets. Nowadays, I actually like fresh beets with onions. But how would i know this if I wasn’t open to trying it again? Sure I could have spent the rest of my life saying, “I don’t like beets,” but that concept would have been merely based on my tastebuds as a child. The fact of the matter is that both you and I are simply not who we were 20, 30, or even 40 years ago. While some core values may never change, some other aspects have most definitely evolved and changed. I encourage each of you to take a leap of faith and try something new. Explore something you’ve always wanted to do.

Have you always wanted to learn to sew? Take a sewing class at Michael’s.
Want to be a better cook? Whole Foods offers courses. I know someone (My friends 60ish year old mother) who is an excellent cook, but she still took a class on how to cook a pork roast. She was so amazed with what she learned and now searches for other classes to try.
Want to learn more about God? Go to a Bible study perhaps at a different church than you’re used to. Sometimes a change in scenery pushes or rekindled the growth process.
Change doesn’t traditionally occur in the 4 walls of your comfort zone. Step out. Take a deep breath and wow yourself with doing something new or reintroducing an old concept. Sometimes you’ll be surprised with the results, and you’ll learn that the saying that “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks,” is all a lie or truly only applies to dogs. Lol. Redefine you and what makes you happy.
Have a wonderful, blessed and prosperous holiday season!
Be the gift that keeps on giving!
Peace and blessings!
