The Truth About Time

I ran across this post today on Instagram and was reminded of a conversation I had as an adolescent. Back then I wanted to be a pediatrician but feared the lengthy schooling. My mother encouraged me to ask my pediatrician at my next visit about how long it took her. She told me something on the lines of 12 or 13 years, but within that time she had 3 kids during this process. I remember my eyes bulging and my mouth dropping open. The mere thought that this superwoman had endured the same amount of schooling that it takes to merely go from Kindergarten to 12th grade for me AND she had a family we’re just unthinkable to me. She encouraged me to peruse my dreams and to not look at the time it takes. She said that time would pass anyway and I should rather it pass doing something that I love vs spending time regretting not making the move. I’ll never forget that conversation. Thought I ditched the idea of being a pediatrician not long after that, I did endure 8 years of college plus a one year residency and didn’t even have time to focus on the time. Seeing this post today reminds me that the concepts still applies. There are a few things I want to do in my life, and I should still embark on them regardless of age. Time waits for no one. So why base your actions on time?
