Good Eats

I’ve been terrible at blogging lately. What can I say? Life is simply taking it’s course and I’m seriously within a rough patch of my life. Keeping things light and fluffy I thought I’d mention the hot food spots I’ve visited in the past 2 weeks. I hate that I didn’t get a picture but I’ll try to do better next time.

Ralph’s on the Park
This place is very bourgeois which exactly fits my finer taste. I attended a business dinner here and was fairly impressed.

What did I order?
A glass of white wine, seafood and okra gumbo, pork tenderloin on a bed of sweet potatoes and some sort of chocolate moose and cake combo. It all was literally heaven in my mouth. The only bad thing I can say is that the pork was a bit too undercooked and not as tender as I would have liked it to be.

My take…
I was so impressed that I’d like to go back in the very very near future.

Bear’s Po Boys at Gennaros
It’s a whole in the wall sort of a place that’s located in Old Metairie on Metairie Rd just under the Causeway bridge.

What did I order?
Although po boys are their thing I decided to try their burger. In particular it was a hot sausage patty mixed with beef with onions and the works. We also had fried pickles and sweet potatoe fries. Both were good. It was my 1st time trying fried pickles. Although they were good, it was a bit too salt for my taste. The burger is too big for just one person to eat unless you are just a hog.

My take…
It was scrumptious but unless I’m going with my staff for lunch, I doubt I just go back on my own.

TruBurger
It’s located on Oak Street in Uptown New Orleans. It’s my first time venturing to Oak Street so I’m pretty excited about this. It has a keen resemblance to The Counter, which is a burger joint I’ve been to in Chicago but still not as nice.

What did I order?
The Patty Melt (swiss cheese, grilled onions, tru sauce, on an inside-out bun) with avacado. We also had onion rings and an oreo milk shake.

My take…
There is a such thing as heaven on earth. I am aware that any food tastes extraordinary when you are hungry but this place supercedes hot burger places like Five Brothers and Port of Call. I plan to go back not just to try TruBurger again but also to explore Oak St.

Canal Street Bistro
Located on Canal Street, this spot reminds me of one of the many places I’ve been to or passed by in Chicago. It’s quaint, clean and complete with outdoor seating. It was a rainy day so we dined in.

What did I order?

I came to this place with every intention to just have a drink, but let’s face the music. I’m a foodie. I did indeed order a Citrus Strawberry Lime Icy which included strawberries, mint, lime, orange and sugar. I also ordered the Belt Croissant Sandwich (scrambled eggs, bacon, spring mix & tomatoes, served with potatoes or grits, choice of croissant or multi grain bread).

My take…
I loved this place. Everything from the ambiance to the menu makes me want more. It comes across as very healthy which is hard to find in New Orleans. I’m sure I’ll be having another breakfast outing in the future. I won’t prematurely wear out this place but I plan to return soon.
